Aegean Daiquiri

If you like licorice, you’ll love this cocktail made with Ouzo, an anise-flavored Greek liqueur. Usually mixed with water and served with small plates or appetizers, this recipe features gin for a smooth twist. When poured into a glass, the clear liquid turns milky white — diluting the Ouzo causes it to separate and creates an emulsion whose fine droplets scatter the light. In 2006, Greece won the right to label Ouzo as an exclusively Greek product and listed it with PDO or Protected Designation of Origin status, which prohibits makers other than Greece and Cyprus from using the name in Europe.
Ingredients
1-ounce gin
1½ ounces Ouzo (Greek liqueur)
1 ounce honey simple syrup (1 part honey + 1 part water)
Juice from ½ a lemon
Preparation
Fill a shaker with ice.
Add gin, Ouzo, honey simple syrup and lemon juice. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
Strain into a glass over a single ice cube and garnish with a lemon twist.
